The fiscal office of Hopewell-Loudon Local Schools is a busy place!  We are always asked the question - what do you have to do to keep you busy all year?  Well, glad you asked!

Every other week we pay about 100 employees.  Everyone appreciates getting paid on time and paid accurately.  Pam Shaw does a great job on this.  However, once the paychecks are passed out, the job is not done.  Pam has to file all taxes we owe due to payroll, make sure everyone's retirement pay is accurate, create contracts, keep everyone's payroll file updated, etc., etc.  That's almost a full time job in itself.

In addition to paying the employees, Pam does a nice job of administering the benefits of the district - all employees are entitled to health, dental, vision and life insurance, and Pam enrolls and maintains all those records, in addition to helping employees figure out problems they are having.

We have to pay all the bills coming into the district.  How much can you buy?  Well, let me tell you, we made over 2,000 purchases last year. Deb Dell keeps us buying and paying bills all year long!   In addition to making the purchases, paying the bills, etc., we must adhere to all of the auditor's rules and regulations which makes purchasing items even a little bit more complicated. And, it is not uncommon for someone to need something at the last minute, and we will help as much as possible.

After all this is done, we need to keep a close track of our expenses, budgets, revenues, legal issues, tax issues, auditing problems, forecasts, answer questions, attend meetings, learn what's new, help our employees, issue contracts, create salary notices, close the books every month and fiscal year, endure audits, be scrutinized by the public, prepare information and present it to the board of education to keep them updated on all financial and legal issues, assist in levy renewals/votes, etc., etc., etc., and this doesn't even include the unexpected problems and issues that crop up every day!

In the summer, it is really one of our busiest times, as the fiscal year ends June 30th, and we must close the books, update inventory, and possibly start being audited.  The nice thing about summer is that there are not a lot of interruptions during the day so that you can come in and work hard and get a lot accomplished!

If you have any questions for our office, please feel free to contact me at the above email address!  Have a healthy fiscal day!

Thanks for taking the time to review the information on these pages!
