Morning Announcements for Friday, March 20th

I think I uploaded announcements to the Hopewell-Loudon Elementary Facebook page correctly.  I'm not much of a social media person, but I'm trying.  So just in case you missed it, here are the announcements for today.

Good Morning Chieftains!  Today is "National Ravioli Day!"

I  want to thank all of the students and families for working so hard this week.  I know it's been hard but the Governor said education must continue.  We're leaders and we're going to lead the way through this!  Teachers are going to continue to award LiveSchool points, so don't miss out.  Students in grades 4-6, you need to log into Google Classroom.  Your teachers are trying to contact you.  If you need wifi, the parking lots of PJ's Brickhouse and Meadowbrook Park are places to connect.  Our website has more places to connect.  Mr. Acton has done a great job keeping up the list of places to connect.  I check Google Classroom and teacher Facebook pages daily to see the awesome job you are doing.

Today's weather is windy and partly cloudy.  The temperature will drop into the 40's today.  We may need to have inside recess.

The Leader in Me reminder for today is, We are a Leader in Me School.  We will Put 1st Things First and get our work done today.  We will also Think Win-Win and ask our teachers when we have questions.

Morning Announcements for Thursday, March 19th

Good Morning Chieftains!  Today is March 19th.  It's "National Let's Laugh day"!  Check out Hopewell Loudon Elementary Facebook page for Mr. Nelson's joke to celebrate "National Let's Laugh Day".  He thinks he's pretty funny!

Spring starts tonight just before midnight.  Today's weather is mostly cloudy in the morning with a chance of rain in the afternoon and a high of 65 degrees.

We are a Leader in Me School.  We will Put 1st Things First and get our work done today.  We will also Think Win-Win and ask our teachers when we have questions.

Morning Announcements for Wednesday, March 18th

Good Morning Chieftains!  Today is March 18th, it’s National Sloppy Joe Day!

I tried to video record the announcements, but it didn’t work today.  Mrs. O is working on an Elementary Facebook page. We’ll let you know when it’s ready.  We’ll do Facebook Morning Announcements soon!

Today’s weather is sunny in the morning with a chance of rain in the afternoon.  The high is 48 degrees.

We are a Leader in Me School.  We will Put 1st Things First and get our work done today.  We will also Think Win-Win and ask our teachers when we have questions.

I am so proud of all of you!  I have been peeking into your Google Classrooms and checking in with teacher Facebook pages.  You are all working so hard and your teachers are trying so hard to get the information to you and your parents.

Parents, please log into Final Forms located under the Parents and Students Tab Dropdown, click on HL School Forms and it's the 3rd Link.  It's called "Link to H-L Final Forms SiteLink".  Please make sure your contact information is up to date.

We’ll keep synergizing through these weeks and counting down the days until we see each other again! 20 days and counting.  Take care! I miss you all!

Mrs. Nelson

Good Morning Chieftains!  Today is Tuesday, March 17th - Happy Saint Patrick’s day!  I hope you remembered to wear green.

We are a Leader in Me School.  Chieftains know how to Be Proactive (Habit 1) in the face of a challenge.  Today, it’s important to remember that you are in charge of you.  There’s no challenge too big for us!

Now, let’s Begin With the End in Mind (Habit 2) We need a plan of how homeschool will look for you every day.  The Governor of Ohio said education is to continue.  We can do this by starting with Habit 2. Write down your schedule of what it was at school and try to stick to it as close as possible.  Students in grades 4-6 will have work assigned online. If you or your parents have questions, ask your teacher. Don’t forget to give yourself recess at your normal recess time.  Specials time is important too. Our high school physical education teacher put together a calendar with daily PE activities and challenges.  It's located under the "Offsite Learning" link in the Elementary dropdown. Keep track of what you did to show Mr. Ream when we all come back to school.  On the day when you would have library time, take time to read a book for enjoyment. If you’re in elementary band, don’t forget to practice. Mr. Nelson wants you to record your practice time to turn in when we get back.  Mrs. Daniel sent music activities home for you, she wants to see them completed when you come back. If you are a 5th or 6th grader, you have art activities to complete from Mr. Beidelschies. Students in K-4, create art for me and your teachers (5th and 6th grade, you’re welcome to do this too).

It’s time to Put First Things First (Habit 3) and get started with the schedule we just worked out.  Get rid of distractions around you. Shut off the TV. There will be time for TV later.  Let’s focus on getting our work done for today and stay true to being a Chieftain.

Habit 4 is Think Win-Win.  When we think Win-Win we are not selfish.  Help out at home. This time is not easy for your parents.  How can you help today? If you have other brothers and/or sisters please be kind and share.

Seek First to Understand then to be Understood (Habit 5).  This is a frustrating time for everyone, but we need to listen to what government officials are telling us.  They are trying to keep everyone safe. Please remember to cover coughs and sneezes. Wash your hands often. This will keep you and others safe.

Habit 6 is Synergize.  Your teachers Synergized yesterday in coming up with ways to make learning opportunities available to you and tried to work in some fun too.  Now it’s your turn to Synergize with your teachers by working through the material they are providing, signing up for the Google Classrooms and other modes of learning they are sending out.

Habit 7 Sharpen the Saw.  Don’t forget to take time to do what interests you.  Get outside and play if you can.

Our motto is: Each student, every day, someway, success!

Have a good day!

Welcome back!

It's the 2020-21 school year!

Welcome to the 2020-21 school year!

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in the spring, everyone’s personal and professional lives have changed. Many of you have not gotten the opportunity to have a restful summer, but have been working with your administration, local health department, and school nurse colleagues to establish the best safe, evidence-based school experience for students, families and staff. We appreciate all of the work you all have been doing.

One of the challenges of dealing with a novel virus such as COVID-19 is that we are all learning new things about it all of the time. Because of this, guidance can and will change as we move forward through this unusual school year. It is imperative that you monitor reliable sources of information on a regular basis to keep up with the most current guidance. Sites we recommend include:

·        The Ohio Department of Health’s coronavirus.ohio.gov . This site houses all of the Governor and Health Orders, current data, and sector specific guidance –including the requirements for schools. There are many resources such as posters, fliers, videos, etc., that you can use.

·        The Ohio Department of Education’s http://education.ohio.gov/Topics/Reset-and-Restart . This site houses the Reset Restart guidelines for schools, as well as a growing number of resources that you can use in your school.

·        The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/index.html . This site offers current information about COVID-19 in general, in addition to guidance specifically for schools and child care. There are many resources such as videos, handouts, posters, etc., that you may find useful.

·        Governor DeWine’s press conferences at http://www.ohiochannel.org/collections/governor-mike-dewine . The Governor has a COVID-19 press conference on most Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at 2 pm. If you cannot watch them live, you may access them at this link.

We have been hearing from many of you throughout the spring and summer with thoughtful questions about how to keep your communities safe. We have answers to some of them, but not all of them. Again, as time goes on and we all learn more about the virus, we will all know more.

The two most common questions we have received are regarding vision and hearing screening and immunization requirements. The ODH Vision and Hearing programs will shortly be releasing screening guidance for COVID-19. At this time there have been no changes in immunization reporting requirements. No one wants an outbreak of a vaccine-preventable illness during a pandemic.

This school year will be a challenging one for School Nurses for many reasons. The ODH Interim Medical Director has emphasized a couple of things to us: (1) the pandemic is not going to last forever, and (2) because we are dealing with a deadly, easily transmitted virus, we need to be aggressive to keep people safe and save lives. As School Nurses, our role has traditionally been to keep students well and in school so that they can learn. During this unusual year, our role will be to send home students and staff that have any COVID-19 symptoms. We know that COVID-19 symptoms are similar to many childhood illnesses (see https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/downloads/community/schools-childcare/COVID19-symptoms-tablegraphic-v1.pdf ). In this time of the COVID-19 pandemic, instead of trying to keep students in school, your role will be to send them home. This is challenging for School Nurses. But remember, this is not forever—the pandemic will end. Then you will be back to work keeping students well, in school, and learning.

There are some additional resources below that we typically share at the beginning of the school year. We hope you find this information useful in your practice. Please let us know if you have any questions. Have a wonderful school year!
